Maja's Story
Beyond the Refugee Label
‘Refugee’ is not a label that anyone wants.
When Maja left Bosnia, she thought she would be gone for two weeks, maybe three—but she never returned. Instead, she came to the United States as a refugee and was resettled in Jacksonville, Florida. The warm welcome she received from her community and the Global Refuge network helped pave the way for her to become an author, professor, and Fulbright scholar.
