One of my favorite quotes about giving comes from Mark 1:43-44.

Jesus tell his disciples, ”…this poor widow contributed more than all the others…They gave from their surplus wealth, but she gave from her want…”

This how my family has always felt about giving. And this is how we feel about giving at GRI. The smallest acts of kindness can have the most amazing effects on others.

Whereas others' talents may lie in making money, my talents have always been of a more creative, hands-on nature. To this end I donate my time and talent to this very worthy cause. Twice a week I arise way before dawn to bake fresh muffins and scones for our coffee shop. While others may think that getting up at 4:00am to bake for strangers is a huge sacrifice, I don’t see it that way. I find it very fulfilling. I think of it as a way to share my talents with others. I find the more I give of myself the more I get in return: more love, more friendship and the satisfaction of knowing that my talents are being used to help real people who are desperately in need of help.
