Shaunessy’s first trip to China in 1999 was life changing. Then in 2001, she was moved to serve refugees while seeing their overwhelming needs on a trip to the Thailand/Burma border. Shaunessy graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of Science in Nursing from Regis University (CO), spent a few years in the US gaining nursing experience and then served in Africa and Southeast Asia with varying large non-governmental organizations prior to moving overseas with GRI in 2006. She then received a Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Liverpool (UK).

Shaunessy has initiated and overseen therapeutic feeding programs, mobile medical clinics and HIV and malaria initiatives in Thailand, Burma, Sudan and Uganda. She currently spends her time building the actual clinical health programs within Global Refuge. She works in conjunction with our Medical Director and other health specialists to create village-based medical programs, medic trainings and clinic based medical outreach opportunities, all focused on providing high quality holistic care to those in need. Working intimately with displaced people, she has a particular passion for the psychological and spiritual aspects of health.
